New arrangements for fall 2020 enrollment at American universities

Pubdate:2020-12-18   Author:lygac
The COVID-19 epidemic has seriously affected the normal life of overseas students. Traditional face-to-face teaching activities have been suspended for several months, and all campus activities, such as graduation ceremony, stage performance and track and field competition, have been switched to online learning. As the number of cases in the U.S. continues to climb, the upcoming fall semester season has become an uncertain one, and many students and parents are wondering: Will U.S. colleges open normally this fall?
  1. Harvard University:
The campus will open in the fall of 2020 Harvard University officially announced in late April that its campus would open in fall 2020, other events would be held, and students would be able to return to campus as scheduled. But according to Harvard, the Coronavirus will remain a serious threat in the coming months and there will be no certainty that all restored sites and activities will be safe, so a lot of preparatory work will be done before the official opening to ensure that all returning students and faculty are healthy. However, there may be individual teaching activities/projects that are different from the past, and specific Harvard colleges will be talking to students, faculty and staff in the coming weeks, as well as offering more guidance on the fall curriculum. P.S. Harvard has previously emptied most of its campuses, such as lecture halls, seminar rooms, gymnasiums and art Spaces, but due to the uncertainty of the virus, the opening of these venues will depend on the state of the pandemic. 2. Northeastern University: The school is scheduled to open in the fall Northeastern University said in an email to undergraduate admissions students on May 9 that it will reopen all of its campuses this fall for face-to-face (offline) teaching and accommodation. 3. New York University: Four back-to-school modes On May 10, several GRADUATE programs at New York University (NYU) e-mailed newly admitted students to announce four modes of opening. The four models are: (1).Regular Fall Start (Regular teaching mode) The normal teaching mode will be restored and traditional in-person Instruction will be adopted. (2).Delayed Fall Start (mixed mode) The background to the mixed model is that with the United States currently suspending all visa services worldwide, the biggest unknown is whether students will be able to get visas to report to school before the semester starts in the fall. For international students, NYU offers a solution: classes can be held online at the beginning of the semester, and offline classes can be held after the student arrives on campus with an approved visa. (3).Fall Online, Spring on Campus Students can also choose to attend classes online throughout the fall semester and then offline in the spring semester of 2021. (4) Spring 2021 Start (delayed enrollment) This option means that students may defer enrollment until the spring of 2021 if the curriculum allows. 4. Purdue University: It plans to reopen the campus in Fall2020 5. In addition, Some other schools are also planning to open in the fallIncluding the University of Alabama System, North Carolina, North Dakota, Texas Tech University, etc. 6. As for whether to start school in autumn, Many universities are still under observation Princeton e-mailed a letter to all students and faculty on May 4. President Christopher L. Eisgruber said in an email that the Princeton community faces a prolonged and devastating public health crisis and one of the greatest upheavalsin American history. So over the past few weeks, the committee and the colleges have been discussing whether Princeton can restart face-to-face teaching and research, do it in a way that respects public health and safety protocols, and ensure that students and faculty are healthy when they participate in extracurricular activities and live on campus. In these circumstances, the decision becomes extremely difficult. As a result, Princeton will wait until mid-June to decide how to schedule its fall semester, although the fall calendar will be strictly observed for both online and in-person classes. According to the current situation, many American universities are basically in the "observation" state. To a large extent, it depends on the development of the epidemic situation in the United States and the development progress of vaccine research and development. On this basis, they can assess their own anti-risk capability. So while most of the announcements will be made in June or July, it's time to get ready to "reopen the campus" as much as possible. However, if the situation is not optimistic, American universities are prepared to deal with the unavailability of classes and online activities. So, if you're starting school this year, check out the school's official website, pay attention to emails, and keep an eye on how things are going in the fall. First, actively apply for I-20 and make visa appointment. Second, choose online courses, or postpone to Spring 2021, or re-enroll GAP in Fall2021 for one year. In either case, improving your English listening and speaking skills, as well as your reading skills, is the most important thing at the moment, which is what American universities need the most. The amount of reading at American colleges and universities is a tough challenge for international students. Also, without face-to-face guidance or support from the school, it can be stressful for international students, so lay the foundation to survive the transition.
